Gythio ferry port lies in the north-west of the Laconian Gulf, at the foot of the Mani on the Peloponnese. It is the mainland end of the line via Kythira to western Crete: from here you can reach Kythira in 2.25 hours, Antikythira in 4.5 hours and Kissamos in the west of Crete in 6.25 hours. Together the services run up to 6 departures a day. The port is served by SeaJets. Besides the ferry line, the harbour handles leisure craft and cruise ships. Frequency is thin: each of the three routes runs on about two days a week, which is too little for spontaneous onward travel.
Getting there and the terminal
The quay is part of the port zone of Gythio, which stretches along the town's shoreline from the approach to the island of Kranai, linked to the town by a causeway, as far as the level of the lyceum. So you step ashore in the middle of Gythio and are straight in the town. The port is administered by the Dimotiko Limeniko Tameio Anatolikis Manis, based at Eleftherolakonon 1.
