The ferry port of Helsingør is on Zealand in Denmark, at the narrowest point of the Øresund. From here you can reach Helsingborg on the Swedish side. Up to 110 times a day a ferry departs, and the crossing takes around 15 minutes. The port is served by Øresundslinjen. That makes the route less a journey than a commute: the frequency replaces the timetable — you simply take the next ferry.

Getting there and the terminal

Øresundslinjen lists two addresses on the same street. By vehicle you drive to Færgevej 8 in 3000 Helsingør; on foot you check in at Færgevej 9. If you'd rather leave the car behind, there's a multi-storey car park on Færgevej; the first quarter of an hour is free, after that it's billed by the hour, and payment is by card only.

Check-in

The deadlines are as tight as the frequency allows. With a vehicle you must be checked in at the latest ten minutes before your booked departure, with a commuter card at the latest five minutes before. On foot, the five-minutes-before-departure limit applies throughout. If you miss it, that's rarely dramatic given this frequency: the next ferry leaves shortly after. Even so, make sure your ticket is valid for the departure you've booked.
