Heraklion ferry port is on Crete in Greece and is the island's most important port. From here you can reach 24 destinations, among them Piraeus, Ios and Milos. Together the services add up to as many as 58 departures a day. Crossings take between 1.5 and 11.25 hours. The port is served by Blue Star Ferries, Hellenic Seaways, Minoan Lines and SeaJets. Thira is an hour and a half away, Piraeus nine and a half.
Getting there and the terminal
The port authority runs a passenger terminal of 2,500 square metres with separate areas for check-in and baggage control. Inside you will find an information desk with free city maps, free wi-fi, luggage lockers, cash machines, car hire and a taxi rank. For vehicles the port authority operates three managed car parks. Charges are by the hour and by the day, and there are multi-day rates and monthly passes. So if you are travelling on around the island without a car, you can leave it at the port.
Check-in
Minoan Lines asks you to be at the port no later than one hour before the scheduled departure; boarding in Heraklion starts two and a half hours before departure. Blue Star Ferries states the same hour, with or without a vehicle.
