Ferries to Hillarys

The ferry port of Hillarys lies north of Perth in Western Australia. From here you reach Rottnest Island. The timetable lists up to 6 departures a day and the crossing takes around 45 minutes. The port is served by Rottnest Fast Ferries.

Getting there and the terminal

The ticket office and the berth are both in Hillarys Boat Harbour, at Shop 56 Southside Drive. The office sits at the south-western end of the site facing Southside Drive, while departures are from the northern end of the harbour. By car it is about 20 minutes from Perth, along the Mitchell Freeway to the Hepburn Avenue exit. Parking at the harbour is free: the south side and parts of the north side cost nothing. For buses and trains the operator refers you to Transperth's Journey Planner and advises allowing plenty of time. The ticket office is staffed daily from 6:45 am to 5:30 pm.

Check-in

Be at the harbour 60 minutes before departure. Boarding starts 30 minutes beforehand and ends 10 minutes before the ship leaves. If your ticket has a barcode in the top right corner, it doubles as your boarding pass, so you can skip the ticket office and go straight to the berth. Anyone staying overnight on the island or hiring equipment should report to the office in any case; that is also where you get the luggage tags, which can alternatively be ordered in advance.
