Hong Kong ferry port serves a single axis, but an extremely dense one: the crossing over the mouth of the Pearl River to Macao and to Zhuhai. The crossing to Macao takes an hour, the one to Zhuhai 1.25 hours. Together the two destinations account for up to 102 departures a day, of which up to 86 go to Macao alone, seven days a week; Zhuhai is served on around two and a half days a week. The routes are operated by Cotai Water Jet and TurboJet.
Getting there and the terminal
Hong Kong has two terminals for these sailings, and they lie on opposite sides of the harbour. The Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal is on Hong Kong Island on the third floor of the Shun Tak Centre, 200 Connaught Road Central in Sheung Wan; it connects directly to Sheung Wan MTR station and can also be reached by bus, minibus and taxi. The China Ferry Terminal is opposite in Kowloon, in China Hong Kong City, 33 Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, with the departure hall on the first floor and the arrival hall on the second; from there it is a few minutes' walk to the Star Ferry pier and to Tsim Sha Tsui and Austin MTR stations. Check which of the two is on your ticket before you travel.
Check-in
Cotai Water Jet gives 30 to 45 minutes before departure as the time you should be at the terminal; that includes baggage handling. Add time for border control, as Macao and Zhuhai are separate immigration territories.
