- Île-d'Houat, Morbihan
The ferry port of Houat serves the Île-d'Houat, a small island in the Breton département of Morbihan. There are two destinations to choose from: Quiberon on the mainland and the neighbouring island of Hœdic. Both routes operate seven days a week and together add up to as many as 18 departures a day. The crossing takes 30 minutes to Hœdic and 45 minutes to Quiberon. The port is served by Breizhgo Oceane.
Getting there and the terminal
Ships tie up in Port Saint-Gildas on the north coast, right beside the village. Houat lies 14 kilometres off Quiberon and has around 250 permanent residents, and the harbour is correspondingly modest: a mole, a berth, and the village behind it.
Motor vehicles are banned on the island. You get around on foot or by bike; a community bus runs from the harbour to the Bourg and on to the campsite. So the best place to leave a car is Quiberon. The harbour master's office at Port Saint-Gildas is staffed from April to September, and all day in July and August. If you are travelling on: the service to Hœdic is the continuation of the same route from Quiberon.
