Hy-Line-Terminal, 220 Ocean Street, Hyannis; Parkplatz 183 Iyannough Road

Hyannis ferry port is in the United States, on the Cape Cod peninsula. From here you can reach Nantucket and Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard. Together the services run up to 30 departures a day. The crossing takes around an hour. The port is served by Hy-Line Cruises.

Getting there and the terminal

The terminal is at 220 Ocean Street in Hyannis. You can only get onto Cape Cod over one of the two canal bridges, Sagamore or Bourne. In summer the operator advises against travelling on Fridays between 14.00 and 21.00 and on Saturdays between 8.00 and 14.00, when the traffic backs up.

Parking is not at the dock but at 183 Iyannough Road, a good two kilometres away. You check in there with the attendant; a shuttle to the terminal runs from late April to late October and again from late November to early December. You may drop off luggage, bicycles and passengers at the dock beforehand. Leave your parking ticket visible on the dashboard.

Check-in

With a reservation you should be at the terminal 30 to 45 minutes before departure, says Hy-Line Cruises. With luggage, children or a bicycle that becomes a full hour. Without a reservation you are better off arriving earlier still in summer, because the operator does not guarantee free places. Bicycles and surfboards cost extra and have to be booked in advance.
