Iraklia ferry port is on the island of the same name in the Small Cyclades, between Naxos and Amorgos in the southern Aegean. From here you can reach 8 destinations: the neighbouring islands of Schinoussa, Koufonissi, Donoussa and Amorgos with its two ports Katapola and Aegiali, plus Naxos and Paros and, on the mainland, Piraeus. Together the services add up to as many as 16 departures a day. Crossings take between 15 minutes to Schinoussa and 6.5 hours to Piraeus. The port is served by Blue Star Ferries and Small Cyclades Lines.
Getting there and the terminal
The berth is at Agios Georgios, the village above the bay; Blue Star Ferries lists it as the "port of St George". A large sandy beach adjoins the harbour, which makes waiting for a late ship bearable. What matters is the departure at the other end: coming from Piraeus, you will find the ships for Iraklia at gates E6 and E7. The Athens port is big enough that the wrong gate costs you the sailing. Allow extra time for the walk there and do not head for the main entrance.
