Isla Mujeres is a narrow island a few kilometres off Cancún in the Mexican Caribbean. The berth in the island's town is its lifeline: from here you sail to Puerto Juárez north of Cancún, up to 55 times a day. The port is served by Ultramar.

Getting there and the terminal

The port facility is run by the state port authority APIQROO. It covers around 5,000 square metres of land and is split into two areas: Terminal A for general maritime traffic and Terminal B for the ferries. The site has waiting areas, toilets, car parks, a petrol station, wi-fi and security. Vehicles and freight are handled by separate operators; as a passenger you use Terminal B.

Check-in

Ultramar requires you to be at the terminal 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. That sounds like a lot for a short crossing, but in the morning and the late afternoon it is tight. Luggage is limited to one piece of up to 25 kilograms with combined dimensions of up to 142 centimetres. Children up to 1.20 metres tall travel on the child fare, and infants under one year need their own boarding card. Tickets once bought remain valid for six months but are not refundable.
