The ferry port of Ithaca lies on the home island of Odysseus in the Ionian Islands. From here you can reach Sami and Patras. Together the services add up to as many as 6 departures a day. Crossings take between 15 minutes and 3.75 hours. The port is served by Levante Ferries.
Getting there and the terminal
Ithaca has three harbours, and this is the point at which planning goes wrong. Vathy in the south is the main town, with the accommodation and the shops. Frikes lies in the north-west. The ferries from Sami and from Patras, however, use Pisaetos, the harbour in the south-west of the island, directly opposite Kefalonia. If you have booked in Vathy and step ashore at Pisaetos, the drive over the ridge is still ahead of you.
Expect nothing at Pisaetos: the harbour has no facilities for travellers at all, no cafe, no ticket desk, no shop. KTEL runs the island bus network, and taxis do come, but they have to be ordered in advance; in high season it is worth settling the transfer when you book. Hire cars and scooters are the usual way of getting around Ithaca.
