Kangean Island ferry port lies on Kangean, the main island of the group of the same name east of Madura in Indonesia. From here you can reach Kalianget, the ferry port of Sumenep Regency in eastern Madura: up to 2 departures a day appear in the timetable, and sailings run on just under three days a week. The crossing takes around 3 hours. The port is served by Express Bahari.
Getting there and the terminal
The berth is called Pelabuhan Batu Guluk and lies at the western end of Kangean. Vehicles normally drive right up to the quay and pick you up there. If the pier is occupied, which happens when it is busy, it is around 500 metres on foot from the ship to the assembly area; relatives and port workers then help with the luggage.
If you are not tied to the fast boat, you can also reach Kalianget on the traditional wooden vessels. They take eight to nine hours for the same route instead of a good three and sail to their own rhythm. For the return trip, bear in mind that the fast boat service does not run every day, so allow a buffer if a flight or train from Madura or Surabaya is waiting afterwards.
