The ferry port of Kapellskär lies around 90 kilometres north-east of Stockholm on Sweden's Baltic coast, in the municipality of Norrtälje. From here you can reach Långnäs, Naantali and Paldiski. Together the services add up to as many as 10.5 departures a day. Crossings take between 3.5 and 10 hours. The port is served by DFDS, Finnlines and Tallink & Silja Line.
Getting there and the terminal
There is no village here; the postal address is Kapellskär, 760 15 Gräddö. From Stockholm you drive on the E18 via Norrtälje, and the road ends in the port; coming from Arlanda, Uppsala and Gävle you take road 77 to Norrtälje and the E18 from there. Inside the port the entrances are separated by operator: DFDS checks in through entrance A, Finnlines and Tallink Silja through entrance C, and the chargeable car park is at entrance B and may be used for up to 14 days. Buses 631 and 631X run from Norrtälje into the port. DFDS carries no foot passengers on the route to Paldiski; with Finnlines, travellers without a vehicle check in in the terminal hall and are taken to the ship by bus.
Check-in
At Finnlines, check-in opens two hours before departure and closes one hour beforehand. DFDS checks in at the gate in Kapellskär, and only in fixed windows in the morning or in the evening, depending on the day of the week.
