Kastelorizo ferry port lies in Megisti, the only settlement on Greece's easternmost island, around two kilometres off the Turkish coast and 125 kilometres east of Rhodes. From here you can reach 13 destinations, among them Rhodes in a good three hours, plus Symi, Kos and Piraeus. Together the connections add up to as many as 26 departures a day. Crossings take between a good three and a good 22 hours. The port is served by Blue Star Ferries, Dodekanisos Seaways, Hellenic Seaways and SAOS Ferries.

Getting there and the terminal

The island has exactly one harbour, and it lies in the bay of Megisti, right by the village. The main quay measures 82 metres with 6.30 metres of usable water depth and takes ferries, car ferries and catamarans. There is barely any journey to speak of: accommodation, tavernas and offices are all within walking distance along the harbour front. The airfield is four kilometres from the village, and a small bus brings mainly air passengers down; there are also taxis and a seasonal bus service in summer.

Check-in

Of the operators calling at Kastelorizo, Dodekanisos Seaways names the strictest deadline: under its conditions of carriage you have to be at the ship 60 minutes before the scheduled departure. On an island where everything is on the quay, that is no great effort. The thin frequency matters more: most destinations are served on only one or two days a week.
