Rachidi, Regionalbezirk Naxos, Region Südliche Ägäis

Katapola is the main port of Amorgos, the easternmost island of the Cyclades, and lies in a sheltered bay on the south-west side; the berth belongs to the Rachidi district in the regional unit of Naxos. Amorgos has two ferry ports, and this is the point at which travel here goes wrong: the second, Aegiali in the north-east, is 45 minutes away from Katapola by boat, but overland it lies at the other end of this long island. So check before you book which of the two is on your ticket.

From Katapola you can reach 22 destinations, among them Koufonissi in half an hour, Naxos in a good hour and Paros in two, plus Heraklion on Crete, Ios, Donoussa, Folegandros and Milos. Together the services run up to 56 departures a day, and crossings take between 30 minutes and 6.25 hours. The port is served by Blue Star Ferries, SeaJets and Small Cyclades Lines.

Check-in

Blue Star Ferries requires you to be in the boarding area at least an hour before departure, on foot as well as with a vehicle. That is the longest lead time documented for Katapola and therefore the figure to work with. Vehicles board in the order laid down by the port regulations of the relevant port authority; drivers must take their car onto the ship themselves, and their passengers get out beforehand.
