Kennacraig ferry port is in Scotland in the United Kingdom. From here you can reach Port Askaig. A ferry leaves up to 8 times a day. The crossing takes around 2 hours. The port is served by Caledonian MacBrayne.

Getting there and the terminal

Kennacraig is not a village but a terminal by the road: it lies at Whitehouse south of Tarbert on the Kintyre peninsula, postcode PA29 6YF, and is the gateway to Islay and Jura. Scheduled buses stop right in front of the building. Parking is at the side and behind the terminal, without reservation and in order of arrival; when demand is high, a space is not guaranteed. Accessible spaces are beside the building, with an electric vehicle charging point around 15 metres away. Inside you will find ticket desks, a waiting area, toilets with baby-changing facilities, a hot drinks machine and free wifi.

Check-in

Caledonian MacBrayne expects vehicles 30 minutes before departure; the check-in booth stands on the left just past the car park entrance. Foot passengers report to the desk in the terminal no later than 10 minutes before departure. Arrive late and you risk your vehicle space being given away. Port Ellen in the south of Islay is closed for rebuilding until 2029, so all Islay traffic from Kennacraig currently runs via Port Askaig.
