Kimolos lies on the western edge of the Cyclades, immediately next to Milos. The small island's port serves 14 destinations, among them Sifnos, Serifos and Kythnos on the western line, plus Piraeus and Lavrio on the mainland. Together the connections add up to as many as 33 departures a day, and crossings take between 30 minutes and 14.25 hours. The port is served by Cyclades Fast Ferries, Hellenic Seaways, Magic Sea Ferries and SeaJets.
Getting there and the terminal
Kimolos' port is called Psathi. It is 87 nautical miles from Piraeus, which means four and a half to seven and a half hours depending on the ship and the stops in between. If you cannot find a suitable direct sailing, travel via Milos: at its narrowest point the neighbouring island is only 900 metres away, and several small ferries and boats run daily between Psathi and the opposite shore, taking 10 to 25 minutes. Milos has the larger port and an airport, which makes that route the more reliable one in practice.
Check-in
Hellenic Seaways requires you to report to the boarding area at least one hour before departure, with a vehicle as well as on foot. That is the strictest of the published deadlines for this port and a usable guide for the other operators too. Drivers must drive their vehicle on and off the ship themselves; passengers get out beforehand.
