Kos ferry port is on the edge of the island capital in the north-east of the Dodecanese island, around 200 metres from the town centre, and is the main interchange of the northern Dodecanese. From here you can reach 24 destinations, among them Bodrum, Kalymnos and Rhodes. Together the services add up to as many as 84.5 departures a day. Crossings take between 30 minutes and 12 hours. The port is served by 10 operators, among them Blue Star Ferries, Dentur Avrasya and Dodekanisos Seaways.
Getting there and the terminal
The port has two quays and a passenger terminal and operates around the clock. The taxi rank is immediately outside, the bus station about 20 metres away and the international airport 23 kilometres. One point that matters for planning: besides the port of Kos Town and the Mandraki marina, the port authority also looks after the berths at Mastichari, Kardamena and Kefalos on the same island. Those are a long way from the main town, so it is worth checking your ticket before departure to see which berth is meant.
Check-in
In its conditions of carriage for the Dodecanese routes, Blue Star Ferries asks you to be in the boarding area at least one hour before departure, with a vehicle as well as on foot. Hellenic Seaways states the same deadline. That is the strictest requirement among the operators at the port, and it makes sense, because the vehicle lane and the pedestrian check both get long in high season.
