La Maddalena is the main island of the archipelago of the same name off the north-east coast of Sardinia, and its harbour sits right in the middle of town. There is only one route, but it runs at a dense frequency: ferries leave for Palau up to 108 times a day and the crossing takes around 15 minutes. The port is served by Delcomar and Maddalena Lines. Because the island has no fixed link to the mainland, all traffic runs over this route, that of residents and suppliers included.
Getting there and the terminal
Ferries and vehicles are handled at the Molo Commerciale. The Maddalena Lines ticket desk is on Via Amendola and is staffed daily from 7.15 to 20.15; Delcomar runs its own sales point in the port. Maddalena Lines operates between 1 April and 31 October, in summer roughly every half hour from morning until late evening. You do not need the car for the short crossing: vehicles are loaded in order of arrival, which can mean waiting in high season.
