The ferry port of Lampedusa lies less than a kilometre from the village on the island of the same name, which belongs to the Sicilian province of Agrigento and lies further south than Tunis. From here you can reach Linosa and Porto Empedocle. Together the services add up to as many as 12 departures a day. Crossings take between one hour and 8.75 hours. The port is served by Liberty Lines and Siremar.
Getting there and the terminal
The harbour is on the edge of the village, and you reach it from the centre on foot. Liberty Lines tickets are sold by the port agency on Via L. Rizzo, and its opening hours are the real bottleneck: it opens early on weekday mornings before the first departures, closes at midday and opens once more in the late afternoon. So if you have a morning departure and are buying your ticket on the spot, be there in good time. Two very different journeys start here: the hydrofoil to Linosa, just under an hour, and the long crossing to Porto Empedocle on Sicily, which fills a whole day of travel.
Check-in
Liberty Lines requires you to be at the berth at least 15 minutes before departure on domestic routes. Turn up later and you no longer have any claim to be carried. If you need help getting on and off, register it with the operator 48 hours beforehand and be at the ship 30 minutes before departure.
