The ferry port of Larne is in Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom, in County Antrim on the east coast. From here you can reach Cairnryan in Scotland and Douglas on the Isle of Man. Together the services add up to as many as 14 departures a day. Crossings take between 2 and 4.75 hours. The port is served by P&O Ferries and Steam Packet. At two hours, the crossing to Cairnryan is the shortest between Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Getting there and the terminal

The berth is called Larne Port and has the postcode BT40 1AS. By car you come in on the A8, which links the port with Belfast without a detour. Remarkable for a ferry port: Larne Harbour station is only about five minutes' walk from the terminal, and an hourly train runs to Belfast without changing, taking around an hour. On weekdays a bus route from the town adds to this, though with only two journeys a day. There are two supervised car parks at the port with 405 spaces between them, plus eight disabled spaces close to the terminal building; the first 20 minutes are free.

Check-in

For the sailing to Douglas, Steam Packet opens check-in at least 1 hour 30 minutes before departure. With a vehicle you have to be processed at the latest 45 minutes before departure, and on foot at the latest 25 minutes beforehand; check-in is in the Passenger Terminal. For the ferries to Cairnryan, P&O Ferries' deadlines apply, and they may differ from these times. They are stated on your booking confirmation.
