- Le Palais, Morbihan
Le Palais is the main port of Belle-Île-en-Mer in the Morbihan department off the south coast of Brittany. From here you can reach Quiberon on the mainland, up to 19 times a day, and the crossing takes around 45 minutes. The service is operated by Breizhgo Oceane, and it is the only one that runs all year. In the summer half of the year, seasonal services from Vannes, Port Navalo, Locmariaquer, Le Croisic and La Turballe are added. Sauzon is the island's second berth.
Getting there and the terminal
On the island you board at the Gare maritime of Le Palais, on the mainland at its counterpart Port Maria in Quiberon. By car the route runs on the RN 165 to Auray and from there 26 kilometres out onto the peninsula. The island's tourist office reckons on half an hour for that last stretch, and on one to one and a half hours in summer traffic.
Without a car you change at Auray, which is on the TGV line from Paris-Montparnasse: BreizhGo bus route 601 links Auray with Quiberon, and in July and August the summer train Tire-Bouchon runs daily as well, at weekends in June and September. Quiberon has both free and paid car parks. If you want to take a car to the island, plan on going via Quiberon; the island is small, and many visitors deliberately leave the car on the mainland.
