Livorno is Tuscany's ferry port and one of central Italy's main gateways to Sardinia and Corsica. From here you can reach 5 destinations: Olbia and Golfo Aranci on Sardinia, Bastia on Corsica, the small island of Capraia, and Palermo. Together the services add up to as many as 22 departures a day, and crossings take between 2.75 and 19.5 hours. 5 operators call at the port, among them Cors'express, Corsica Ferries and Grimaldi Lines.

Getting there and the terminal

The Stazione Marittima lies just outside the Varco Galvani and houses the waiting hall and the operators' desks. Moby handles departures at Imbarchi Stazione Marittima, Via Donegani, 57100 Livorno, and Corsica Ferries at the Calata Carrara. The ferries to Capraia, by contrast, leave from the Porto Mediceo, the old harbour basin by the Fortezza Vecchia.

By car you take the Porto motorway exit and then follow the signs for Imbarco passeggeri and Via Guido Donegani. The Varco Donegani is open around the clock, the Varco Fortezza daily from 06:00 to 21:00. The terminal has more than 200 supervised spaces for cars, motorhomes, motorcycles and coaches, including 111 car spaces at Piazza del Portuale with charging points for electric cars; the town centre is within walking distance.

Check-in

Moby asks foot passengers to check in at least one hour before departure between 1 June and 30 September and at least 30 minutes from October to May; with a vehicle it is two hours. For Toremar departures, 30 minutes is enough all year round. Grimaldi Lines requires two hours on the route to Palermo, even with fast check-in directly at the ship.
