Lorient is the mainland port for the Île de Groix. The Gare maritime lies on the Rue Gilles Gahinet, between the marina and the fishing harbour and so in the middle of the city's harbour strip. From here BreizhGo Océane sails up to 16 times a day to Port-Tudy on Groix, around 45 minutes per crossing.
Getting there and the terminal
All long-distance trains and intercity buses terminate at Lorient station. From there the Navette Centre-Ville 2 on the IZILO network takes you to the Gare maritime free of charge and without a change; on foot through the town centre, allow about half an hour. By car you park in the P1 and P2 car parks at the Gare maritime. They are meant for short stays and are often full in high season; for P2-Asturies you can reserve a space in advance. If you are staying longer than about a week, the operator points to the town-centre car parks such as Place d'Armes or Gare Sud; Place d'Armes is closed during the Festival Interceltique. The Gare maritime opens 30 minutes before the first departure and closes after the last; on Sundays and public holidays it pauses between the morning and the afternoon sailings.
Check-in
With a car you line up on the boarding car park 45 minutes before departure; only the driver may enter that area. The same lead time applies with a bicycle, and boarding runs outside along a separate corridor. On foot it is enough to be in the boarding hall 20 minutes before departure. BreizhGo Océane keeps to these times strictly: arrive so late that you no longer get on board and you lose your ticket.
