- Mallaig, Highland, Schottland
The ferry port of Mallaig lies on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands, at the end of the road through Lochaber. From here you can reach Armadale on Skye and Lochboisdale on South Uist. Together the services add up to as many as 14 departures a day, and crossings take between 30 minutes and 3.5 hours. The port is served by Caledonian MacBrayne.
Getting there and the terminal
The Caledonian MacBrayne ferry terminal is in the middle of the village and has the postcode PH41 4QD. Mallaig station, the end of the West Highland Line from Glasgow, is five minutes away on foot, as are the bus stops. There is no parking at the terminal itself: two disabled bays lie directly opposite, and the paid long-stay car park at the Community Centre is a five-minute walk. Inside the terminal building you will find the ticket desk, a waiting area, toilets and free wi-fi.
Check-in
Caledonian MacBrayne staggers its deadlines by destination. For Armadale and the Small Isles, vehicles must be checked in 30 minutes before departure; foot passengers to Armadale need ten minutes, and to the Small Isles 20 minutes. Lochboisdale requires more time: 45 minutes with a vehicle, 30 minutes on foot.
