The ferry port of Mariehamn lies in the Åland Islands, the Finnish archipelago in the middle of the Baltic Sea, with the berth in the town's western harbour. From here you can reach 5 destinations, among them Stockholm, Helsinki and Turku, plus Tallinn and Visby. Together the services add up to as many as 20.5 departures a day, and crossings take between 5.5 and 10.5 hours. The port is served by Tallink & Silja Line and Viking Line.

Getting there and the terminal

Ships tie up in Västerhamn, the western harbour just west of the town centre. The terminal is on Hamngatan, and Tallink Silja Line gives the house number as 24. There is not much time for waiting around: Viking Line only opens the terminal one hour before each departure.

Check-in

Mariehamn is a stop on the big Baltic lines, and you notice that in the times. Tallink Silja Line gives fixed check-in windows for each ship, for example 22:45 to 23:40 for the Silja Serenade and the Silja Symphony towards Helsinki, 03:45 to 04:45 in the other direction to Stockholm, and 00:00 to 00:45 for the Baltic Queen to Stockholm. Outside these windows the desk is not staffed, so a two-hour buffer gains you nothing here. Boarding closes 20 minutes before departure. Check the times in the timetable again before you set off, because they depend on the ship rather than on the port.
