The ferry port of Newhaven lies at the mouth of the Ouse in East Sussex, on the south coast of England. From here DFDS sails to Dieppe in Normandy, up to 6 times a day; the crossing takes around 4 hours.
Getting there and the terminal
The terminal has the address Rail Approach, Newhaven, BN9 0DF; that postcode will get your sat nav there too. From inland, the A26 and the A259 lead to Newhaven. Foot passengers have it particularly easy here: Newhaven Town station is 250 metres away, a three-minute walk. Parking is at the port entrance and charged by the day; you buy the ticket in the terminal building, and booking ahead is not possible. As well as cars and motorhomes, the port takes cyclists and foot passengers.
Check-in
Check-in opens an hour and a half before departure and closes 45 minutes beforehand. Turn up later and you should expect not to be let on board. In high season DFDS advises being at the port 90 minutes before departure.
