Ferries to Nynäshamn

The ferry port of Nynäshamn is in Sweden, south of Stockholm on the edge of the archipelago. From here you can reach Visby on Gotland, Gdańsk in Poland and Ventspils in Latvia. Together the connections add up to as many as 12 departures a day. Crossings take between 3.25 and 18 hours. The port is served by Destination Gotland, POLSCA Baltic Ferries and Stena Line. Gotland carries the bulk of the traffic, while the Baltic Sea routes run less often and take longer.

Getting there and the terminal

The most important thing to know first: Nynäshamn has two ferry terminals. Destination Gotland processes passengers for Visby at Nynäsvägen 2B in the middle of town. Stena Line's service to Ventspils, on the other hand, departs from Norviks färjeterminal at Norvikvägen 26, around four kilometres outside town, about a ten-minute drive from the centre. From Stockholm it's around 60 kilometres via Road 73; from western and southern Sweden, Road 225 leads in from Södertälje. By train from Stockholm you'll need about an hour; from Nynäshamn station a free shuttle bus runs from stop D to the Norvik terminal, timed to the departures. There you'll find short- and long-stay parking as well as charging points for electric cars.

Check-in

For Visby, Destination Gotland opens boarding at the latest 1.5 hours before departure and closes it 20 minutes before departure. With Stena Line to Ventspils, check-in already closes 60 minutes before departure, for all travellers, with or without a vehicle. Allow extra time for the walk too: there can be up to 500 metres between the terminal entrance and the ship.
