Oran lies on the north-west Algerian Mediterranean coast, and its port is the country's second-largest after Algiers. For travellers what counts above all is the link to Spain: from here you can reach Alicante, Almeria and Barcelona. Together the routes run up to 6 departures a day. Crossings take between 11 and 19.5 hours. The port is served by Balearia, Naviera Armas and Nouris El Bahr Ferries.
Getting there and the terminal
The operator is the Entreprise Portuaire d'Oran, whose offices at Rue du 20 Août number 1 are right by the port area. The passenger station, the Gare Maritime, covers around 10,500 square metres, with two berths and two passenger bridges; for processing there are eight baggage scanners, two control gates and one baggage belt. Since autumn 2024 the port has also had its own road link to the city ring road, so you can reach the site without working your way through the city centre. Because Algeria requires its own customs formalities for taking a vehicle out of the country, allow considerably more time for processing than on a crossing within Europe.
