The ferry port of Oslo is on the inner Oslofjord, right by the centre of the Norwegian capital, and is Norway's largest passenger port. From here you can reach Kiel in Germany and Copenhagen in Denmark. The route to Kiel is the only direct ferry line between Norway and Germany. Together the services add up to as many as 4 departures a day. Crossings take between 17.5 and 20 hours, so these are overnight sailings with a cabin, not daytime crossings. The port is served by Color Line and DFDS.
For foot passengers the location is an advantage. Unlike many ferry ports, the berth is not far outside the city but less than a kilometre from the centre, so you can reach the city hall, the town centre and the main railway station on foot or in a few stops. For drivers the same location means the opposite: the approach runs through the city centre, and the routes within the port area are short but hard to read.
Which terminal in the port area applies to your sailing is stated on your ticket. Check it before you set off and do not rely on the place name alone. A ferry port of this size has several quays, and the distances between them are longer than a map app suggests.
