Lu Palau/Palau, Gallura Nord-Est Sardegna, Sardinien

Palau sits on the north-eastern tip of Sardinia, opposite the Maddalena archipelago. The port serves a single route, and all the more densely for that: ferries leave for La Maddalena up to 108 times a day and the crossing takes around 15 minutes. The port is served by Delcomar and Maddalena Lines. For anyone heading to the islands, Palau is the point where you swap the car for the ship.

Getting there and the terminal

The ferries leave from the Molo Commerciale. The ticket desk is at Piazza del Molo 7 and is staffed daily from 7.45 to 19.45; Delcomar also sells tickets in the port. From Olbia you take the SS 125 towards Arzachena and Palau and turn off at the Palau/Santa Teresa junction, from where it is another two kilometres or so to the centre. From the north-west the coast road runs from Porto Torres via Castelsardo and Santa Teresa; allow 90 to 100 minutes for those 120 kilometres. If you are leaving the car behind on the Sardinian side, you can use the public multi-storey car park with entrances on Via Capo d'Orso and Via Omero: it is open around the clock, because the payment machine at the entrance works automatically.
