Piombino ferry port lies on the Tuscan coast opposite Elba and is the main way across to the island. From here you can reach 6 destinations: Portoferraio, Rio Marina and Cavo on Elba, plus Pianosa, Bastia on Corsica and Golfo Aranci on Sardinia. Together the services run up to 100 departures a day, and crossings take between 15 minutes and 6 hours. The port is served by Blu Navy, Corsica Ferries, Moby Lines and Toremar.
Getting there and the terminal
Moby and Corsica Ferries both give the same address: Stazione Marittima, Piazzale Premuda, 57025 Piombino. From the road network you first follow the signs for Piombino / Isola d'Elba and then for Porto. The port authority lists around 30,000 square metres of standing area at the Stazione Marittima and a passenger railway station of its own, so the railway ends right at the ferry berth. Check-in is electronic on the apron in front of the ship; there is no queuing at a desk.
Check-in
The strictest requirement comes from Moby: from the beginning of June to the end of September you have to be there at least an hour before departure without a vehicle, while from October to May 30 minutes are enough. With a vehicle, a window of 90 minutes before departure applies all year round. Toremar requires 30 minutes throughout. Identity documents are compulsory for all travellers, including children.
