Piraeus ferry port is in Attica in Greece and is the port of Athens. From here you can reach 67 destinations, among them Aegina, Agistri and Hydra. Together the services add up to as many as 403 departures a day. Crossings take between 30 minutes and 26.25 hours. The port is served by 12 operators, among them Aegean Flying Dolphins, Aegina Ferries and Alpha Lines. Aegina is 45 minutes away, Mykonos three hours, Naxos a good four.
Getting there and the terminal
The port works with numbered gates, and the one that applies to you is printed on your ticket. Blue Star Ferries and Hellenic Seaways assign them as follows: E1 serves the Dodecanese and the route via Santorini to Crete, E2 Chios and Lesbos, E3 Milos and Chania as well as Serifos and Heraklion. The Cyclades ships to Syros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Ios and Santorini use E6 and E7; watch the difference there, because E6 takes foot passengers only and vehicles go through E7. The fast boats into the Saronic Gulf to Aegina, Agistri, Poros, Hydra and Spetses leave from E9, which you can drive right up to the berth. Piraeus metro station is at the port. Line 3 runs from here all the way to Athens airport.
Check-in
Blue Star Ferries asks you to be at the boarding area at least one hour before departure, with or without a vehicle. Minoan Lines states the same deadline and starts boarding in Piraeus two and a half hours before departure.
