Piran sits on a narrow spit of land in the far south-west of Slovenia on the Adriatic. From here you can reach Trieste in 45 minutes and Venice in around 3 hours. Together the services add up to as many as 5 departures a day. The port is served by Kompas and Liberty Lines, and seasonally at that: taken over the year, a ship sails to Trieste on a good two days a week and to Venice less often still.

Getting there and the terminal

Liberty Lines handles sales and check-in in Piran through the tourist information centre at Tartinijev trg 2, that is, right on Tartini Square in the centre of town; out of season the office is closed.

Do not plan on driving right up to the berth. The tourist board of Portorož and Piran recommends parking in the Fornače or Arze garages and continuing into the centre on foot or by local shuttle bus. Expect heavy traffic in summer, and note that a vignette is required on Slovenian motorways.

Check-in

On international routes Liberty Lines requires you to present yourself for border and check-in formalities at least 45 minutes before departure. As Piran is only ever called at on cross-border services, that deadline applies here. After it, carriage is no longer guaranteed.
