Platanias ferry port is in Thessaly in Greece, at the southern end of the Pelion peninsula. From here you can reach Glossa, Skiathos and Volos. Together the services run up to 10 departures a day. Crossings take between 30 minutes and 1.75 hours. The port is served by Mantoudi Lines.
Getting there and the terminal
Do not confuse this port with the resort of the same name near Chania on Crete. What is meant here is the fishing village in the south of Pelion, in the regional unit of Magnisia, around 65 kilometres from the regional capital Volos and on the Diavlos Trikeriou strait. Boats call at a small natural harbour that otherwise serves fishing and leisure craft, and there is no terminal building. The advantage of this berth is the short distance to the Sporades: Skiathos is half an hour away, and Glossa in the north of Skopelos an hour. If you want the short hop instead of the long run from Volos, you take Platanias. Conversely, Volos itself is the longest link from this berth, at around 1.75 hours. The village is a fishing village with tavernas on the water and lives off the summer beach trade, so do not expect a large ferry operation with waiting rooms and desks.
