The ferry port of Playa del Carmen lies on the Caribbean coast of Mexico. From here you reach Cozumel. A ferry leaves up to 15 times a day. The crossing takes around an hour. The port is served by Ultramar.
Getting there and the terminal
The ferries to Cozumel leave from the Terminal Marítima NAVEGA on Avenida Benito Juárez in Playa del Carmen. It is a passenger-only service.
If you want to take your car, this is not where you sail from: the vehicle ferry leaves further south at Punta Venado near Calica, at kilometre 72 of the Cancún - Tulum road, and reaches the Félix González Canto terminal on Avenida Rafael Melgar on Cozumel. You have to reserve at least 24 hours in advance. For a day trip the detour is rarely necessary.
Check-in
Ultramar asks you to be at the terminal 40 minutes before the scheduled departure. The ticket includes one piece of luggage of up to 25 kilograms; the sum of its length, width and height may not exceed 142 centimetres.
