The ferry port of Poole is in England in the United Kingdom, on one of the largest natural harbours in Europe. The berth is in the Hamworthy district. From here you can reach 4 destinations, among them Cherbourg, Guernsey and Jersey. Together the services add up to as many as 8 departures a day. Crossings take between 3 and 6 hours. The port is served by Brittany Ferries and DFDS. Brittany Ferries sails to Cherbourg all year round, while according to the port authority the Channel Islands are served by fast ferries between April and October, with onward connections to Saint-Malo.
Getting there and the terminal
Ferry operations run through the passenger terminal in Hamworthy. There you will find the operators' check-in and information desks, luggage trolleys, toilets and a room for nursing mothers. The port authority's car park is directly opposite the foot passenger hall, on New Harbour Road South, Hamworthy, Poole BH15 4AJ. It works as a pay-on-foot system, paid by card at a machine before you leave. There are tariffs from one hour up to 24 hours, plus overnight pitches for caravans and motorhomes with a café, toilets and showers. At night the port's security patrols the car park at irregular intervals.
Check-in
On the Jersey routes from Poole, DFDS closes check-in 60 minutes before departure for vehicles and bicycles and 40 minutes before departure for foot passengers. It recommends arriving 120 minutes beforehand with a vehicle and 90 minutes beforehand on foot. Brittany Ferries does not give a blanket deadline but states it in your booking confirmation.
