The ferry port of Port Askaig lies on Islay in the Inner Hebrides in the United Kingdom. From here you can reach Kennacraig. Ferries leave up to 8 times a day. The crossing takes around 2 hours. The port is served by Caledonian MacBrayne.
Getting there and the terminal
The terminal at Port Askaig, postcode PA46 7RB, is small: there are around 24 parking spaces plus about five accessible ones. Everything else is within sight. The bus stop is less than 20 metres from the entrance, a petrol station 30 metres and a shop 25 metres. Inside the building there is a ticket desk, a waiting area, toilets with baby-changing facilities and free Wi-Fi. Major construction work is under way at the harbour, affecting both the marshalling lanes in the port area and the access from the main road: approach slowly and expect altered traffic routing.
Check-in
Caledonian MacBrayne expects vehicles 30 minutes before departure and foot passengers 10 minutes before departure. The vehicle check-in booth stands on the left behind the car park entrance. Turn up late and you risk your vehicle space being given away. Because Port Ellen in the south of the island is closed for rebuilding until 2029, Port Askaig currently handles all of Islay's ferry traffic to Kennacraig.
