The ferry port of Porto Empedocle lies on the south coast of Sicily in Italy and is the gateway to the Pelagie Islands. From here you can reach Lampedusa and Linosa. Together the routes add up to as many as 8 departures a day. Crossings take between 6.5 and 8.75 hours. The port is served by Liberty Lines and Siremar.
Getting there and the terminal
Caronte & Tourist, which runs the Siremar services, puts the distance from the centre of Agrigento to the port at around 8 kilometres and names car and public bus as the ways in. If you are leaving your car in Sicily, the operator recommends the Gieffe car park at Lungomare Luigi Pirandello 2. Check-in is handled by the Tricoli & Nuara agency at Via Molo 13; during the day the desk moves into the passenger terminal for part of the time. As the berth for ships to the Pelagie Islands the operator lists the Banchina nord. Bring a valid identity document and your ticket on paper or as a file, plus the vehicle registration document if you are travelling with a car.
