Rethymno lies on the north coast of Crete, halfway between Heraklion and Chania; the berth belongs to the Perivolia district. For travellers the port is the direct door to the Cyclades without the detour via Heraklion: from here you can reach 13 destinations, among them Thira in a good two hours, Ios, Naxos and Mykonos. Together the connections add up to as many as 31 departures a day, and crossings take between 2.25 and 9.75 hours. The port is served by SeaJets.
Getting there and the terminal
The port handles mixed traffic and is divided into two parts. The western part, with five berths and around 810 metres of quay, deals with cargo; what counts for you is the eastern part. That is where berths F and G lie, 125 and 140 metres long, reserved for cruise ships and car ferries. The land area that goes with them measures 33,500 square metres and is equipped with power, water and fire-fighting installations. The facility is run by the Dimotiko Limeniko Tameio, the municipal port fund; the Limenarcheio is responsible for port police and emergencies.
