The ferry port of Saint-Malo lies in Brittany in the Ille-et-Vilaine département, with the berth at the Naye below the old town near Saint-Servan. From here you can reach five destinations: Jersey and Guernsey in the Channel Islands, and Poole, Portsmouth and Plymouth on the south coast of England. Together the services add up to as many as 11 departures a day, and crossings take between 2 and 13.25 hours. The port is served by Brittany Ferries and DFDS.
Getting there and the terminal
The ferries leave from the Gare Maritime du Naye, the Terminal Ferry du Naye in 35400 Saint-Malo. By car you come in on the toll-free N137 dual carriageway, which links Saint-Malo with the rest of France; from the town boundary you follow the signs for Terminal Ferry du Naye. Directly in front of the building there is an unsupervised car park with a height limit of 2.2 metres, and the first 20 minutes are free; you pay by card at a machine.
On foot you are inside the walled old town in about ten minutes. Saint-Malo station is around two kilometres away, a good 20 minutes' walk or about ten minutes by taxi. Bus 8 stops at the terminal and runs hourly, and the bus station is a few minutes away.
Check-in
Brittany Ferries requires check-in at the latest 45 minutes before departure, or 90 minutes with a pet. On the fast ferries to the Channel Islands the deadline is stricter for drivers: vehicles have to be checked in 60 minutes before departure and foot passengers 40 minutes. So if you are taking the car to Jersey or Guernsey, plan on a full hour. The boarding pass comes by email in advance.
