Sami ferry port lies on the east coast of Kefalonia in Greece and is the island's central passenger port. From here you can reach Ithaca, Bari and Patras. Together the services run up to 8 departures a day. Crossings take between 15 minutes and 14 hours. The port is served by Blue Star Ferries, Levante Ferries and Ventouris Ferries.
Getting there and the terminal
Sami is not in the island capital: Ventouris Ferries gives about 25 kilometres to Argostoli and about 30 kilometres to the airport, which you reach by car or taxi in 35 to 40 minutes. Without your own car you travel with the KTEL intercity buses, which link Sami with Argostoli, Poros and other places. Boarding passes are issued by the port agency Marketou Travel, based at Miaouli 20 in the town. At the port itself you will find waiting areas and information points as well as shops and cafés within walking distance, plus public parking nearby. Watch out for the boarding areas: the port uses several of them, and the allocation changes from departure to departure.
Check-in
Ventouris Ferries, the operator of the long Adriatic crossing to Bari, requires at least two hours' lead time before departure at Sami, especially with a vehicle. Take that as a guide for the whole port, particularly as you collect the boarding pass from the agency beforehand.
