Ferries to Sao Roque

The ferry port of Sao Roque lies on Pico in Portugal, in the town of São Roque do Pico. From here you can reach 4 destinations, among them Velas, Horta and Praia da Vitoria. Together the routes add up to a good 20 departures a day. Crossings take between 45 minutes and 7.5 hours. The port is served by Atlanticoline.

Getting there and the terminal

Atlânticoline calls the port Terminal Marítimo Cais do Pico; that is the name you will find in the timetable and on your ticket. The second half of that information matters just as much: Pico has two ferry terminals. The other is the Terminal Marítimo João Quaresma on Rua Dona Maria da Glória Duarte in Madalena do Pico, a different town on the same island. Book one and drive to the other, and you miss your ship.

Check-in

Atlânticoline closes boarding 10 minutes before the scheduled departure, 20 minutes before for vehicles and 30 minutes before for unaccompanied baggage. Miss those deadlines and you may be left behind. You have to present a valid ticket and an identity document. Travellers with reduced mobility and adults with children board first. The ticket desk at Cais do Pico is not staffed continuously, so it is better to book in advance.
