Sitia ferry port is on the north-east coast of Crete in the regional unit of Lasithi. It is the Cretan bridgehead of the line that connects the island with the Dodecanese and the Cyclades: to Kasos in 2.25 hours, to Karpathos in 3.75 hours, on to Diafani, Chalki and Rhodes, and in the other direction to Heraklion as well as via Anafi and Thira to Piraeus. Together the services add up to as many as 18 departures a day, and crossings take between 2.25 and 13.75 hours. The port is served by Blue Star Ferries.
Getting there and the terminal
In Sitia, Blue Star Ferries is represented by Sitian Holidays. The agency keeps two addresses: the town office at Odos Vitsentzou Kornarou 83 and a second office at the port, which opens one hour before every departure. Sitia has an airport of its own a good kilometre north of the town centre, plus intercity buses to Ierapetra and Agios Nikolaos and, via Heraklion, to the rest of Crete. For anyone travelling from the west of the island that means one thing: the road is long, the bus is infrequent, and the ferry does not wait.
Check-in
For the Greek domestic lines Blue Star Ferries requires you to be in the boarding area at least one hour before departure, with a vehicle or without. The agency's port office opens at exactly that time. If you still have to collect your ticket, do not arrive any later.
