The ferry port of Southsea lies on the Portsmouth seafront on England's south coast, at Clarence Pier. From here the hovercraft crosses the Solent to Ryde on the Isle of Wight. There are up to 44 departures a day. The crossing takes around 15 minutes. The port is served by Hovertravel.

Getting there and the terminal

The hoverport sits immediately at Clarence Pier. Next to it lies The Esplanade municipal car park, where you pay by coin, card or app. If you are coming from further afield, you are better off using the Portsmouth park and ride at junction 1 of the M275: bus route PR1 runs from there every 15 minutes to the interchange at The Hard, where the H1 hoverbus continues to the seafront and stops at Clarence Pier. The hoverbus also links the terminal with Portsmouth Harbour station via The Hard and with Portsmouth & Southsea station via Commercial Road. It is timed around departures and arrivals, though the connection is not guaranteed.

Check-in

Hovertravel asks you to be at the terminal at least ten minutes before your crossing; you have to be at the boarding gate no later than five minutes before departure. Each person may bring 30 kilograms of luggage, and bicycles travel free of charge but cannot be reserved. There is no left luggage at the terminals.
