Split is the hub of ferry traffic in central Dalmatia and lies directly in front of the old town with Diocletian's Palace. From here you can reach 13 destinations: the nearby islands of Brač, Šolta, Hvar, Korčula and Mljet, plus Dubrovnik and, across the Adriatic, Ancona and Bari. Together the services add up to as many as 105 departures a day, and crossings take between 15 minutes and 11 hours. 5 operators call at the port, among them Jadrolinija, Krilo Kapetan Luka and Krilo Shipping Company.
Getting there and the terminal
The passenger port's address is Gat sv. Duje 1, 21000 Split. It is not a single berth but a row of piers: Gat sv. Duje, Gat sv. Petra and Gat sv. Nikole. Which one your ship lies at depends on the operator and the destination and is stated on your ticket. The port authority runs its own parking zones on the port site along Obala kneza Domagoja.
Check-in
Jadrolinija makes a distinction by route. On the domestic lines, arriving 45 minutes before departure is enough if you have booked a vehicle space; without a reservation the queue decides the order, and the operator advises one to two hours' lead time, more in high season. On the international lines to Ancona and Bari, check-in opens two hours before departure, and that is where you collect your boarding pass against your booking confirmation and ID. It is best to have your vehicle registration document and ID ready while still in the queue.
