Tanger Med ferry port is around 40 kilometres east of Tangier on the Strait of Gibraltar, in the Ksar El Majaz free zone in Fahs Anjra province. It is Morocco's most important gateway to Europe: from here you can reach Algeciras, Barcelona, Civitavecchia, Genoa, Marseille and Sète. Together the services add up to as many as 74 departures a day, 64 of them to Algeciras alone. Crossings take between 1.5 and 65.25 hours. Six operators call at the port, among them Africa Morocco Link, Balearia and DFDS.
Getting there and the terminal
From Tangier the A4 motorway runs straight to the port; from Tétouan you come in on the N2. The site has a railway station of its own with two platforms and a bus station. Foot and coach passengers enter the port through the Tanger Med Port Center, which has direct access to the Gare Maritime; DFDS gives this as Gate 2. If you arrive by car, you drive in on the vehicle lanes and check in at one of the ten booths without having to get out. Public car parks are at the vehicle entrance by Gate 3 and next to the Gare Maritime by Gate 2.
Check-in
The procedure is the same for everyone: show your ticket, have the police stamp your passport, clear customs, then a final check before boarding. Foot and coach passengers are taken to the marshalling area by a shuttle inside the port. The port company does not name a binding deadline; for Tanger Med to Algeciras, DFDS recommends being there 90 minutes before departure.
