Tórshavn is the capital of the Faroe Islands and the archipelago's most important ferry port. From here you can reach Hirtshals in Denmark. The line runs weekly, and the crossing takes around 40 hours. The port is served by Smyril Line. The same Norröna continues on to Seyðisfjörður in Iceland.

Getting there and the terminal

The Norröna docks in Tórshavn at Eystara Bryggja, the eastern mole in the town's harbour. The terminal isn't staffed round the clock, only around departures and arrivals, and on different days of the week in summer than under the winter timetable. Outside these times you can reach the shipping company at its head office at Yviri við Strond 1 in Tórshavn.

Check-in

Smyril Line requires check-in at the latest one hour before departure, for foot passengers and travellers with a vehicle alike. This deadline should be taken more seriously than at a port with a frequent service: because the Norröna sails on only a few days of the week, the next opportunity is usually a week later. Plan your journey to the port with correspondingly generous margins, especially if you're coming from one of the other islands.
