Tunis is Tunisia's most important ferry port and the country's link to Europe. Five destinations are served: Palermo as the shortest crossing, plus Genoa, Marseille, Civitavecchia and Salerno. Crossings take between 11 and 27 hours and therefore run over at least one night. The port is served by Corsica Linea, CTN Ferries, Grandi Navi Veloci and Grimaldi Lines.

Getting there and the terminal

Processing takes place not in Tunis itself but in La Goulette on the eastern shore of the Lac de Tunis. By car the road runs across the causeway through the lake, on Avenue Habib Bourguiba; in La Goulette follow the signs to the Gare Maritime. Without a car you take the TGM suburban railway, whose La Goulette Port station is a few steps from the boarding area. Car parks are immediately by the ferry terminal, a few minutes' walk from the Gare Maritime.

Check-in

Grimaldi Lines requires you to check in at the Gare Maritime at least three hours before departure, with or without a vehicle. Grandi Navi Veloci opens check-in eight hours before departure and closes it three hours before as well. So allow half a day's lead time, and bear in mind that passport and customs control come on top.
