Umeå ferry port is not in the city but in Holmsund on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia, around 20 kilometres south of the centre. From here you can reach Vaasa. A ferry leaves up to 4 times a day and the crossing takes around 4 hours. The port is served by Wasaline.
Getting there and the terminal
The terminal is at Blå Vägen 4 in Holmsund, right on the E12. From Umeå you follow the signs for "VASA". The terminal building opens two hours before departure. Without your own car you take the transfer bus: it starts in Ålidhem 1 hour 30 minutes before departure and leaves the city centre 1 hour 20 minutes before departure. In the other direction it leaves the terminal 15 minutes after the ferry arrives. The bus is not included in the ferry ticket and has to be booked at least 3 hours before departure.
Check-in
Foot passengers must have checked in at the terminal no later than 30 minutes before departure; the passenger bridge and check-in close 20 minutes before departure. If you are travelling with a vehicle, you check in at the vehicle lanes at least 1 hour before departure. Both deadlines come from Wasaline and apply across the whole route.
