Valletta ferry port lies on the Grand Harbour, the deeply indented natural bay between the Maltese capital and the Three Cities. From here you can reach Gozo, plus Pozzallo and Catania on Sicily. Together the services run up to 45 departures a day. Crossings take between 45 minutes and 4.25 hours. The port is served by Virtu Ferries.

Getting there and the terminal

The Virtu Ferries passenger terminal is not in the old town on the peninsula but further inside the Grand Harbour: Xatt l-Ghassara tal-Gheneb in Marsa. The operator names Il-Floriana - Hatab, served by bus route 130, as the stop directly outside the building. Parking is available near the terminal, and the operator confirms this explicitly. Allow generous time for the trip from the old town despite the short distance as the crow flies, because the road runs around the bay.

Check-in

Virtu Ferries opens check-in two hours before the scheduled departure and closes it half an hour before. As a foot passenger you have to be at the terminal an hour before departure, and 90 minutes with a vehicle. Anyone who misses this deadline can be refused carriage.
